===
[00:00:00] Laura Lorentz: Welcome to the Empowered Essence podcast, where we liberate you and empower you to let your soul lead the way in life and business. I'm your host, Laura Lawrence, sharing my thoughts and intimate conversations with featured guests on spirituality, business, and making courageous moves in the spirit of following your soul.
[00:00:23] I want to provide you with the tools you need to tap into your highest self. I am here to empower you to walk away, feeling ready to live your most expansive and purposeful life. Let's dive in.
[00:00:39] Hello and welcome to another episode of Empowered Essence. I am so excited to be here today to be talking to you about intuition because at the end of the day that is exactly what this podcast is all about. Letting your soul lead the way in life and business, whether you say soul or higher self or guiding light, those are all terms that you can use interchangeably for your intuition and so our intuition is always guiding us.
[00:01:08] It's always guiding us to our highest path and so it's up to us to A: interpret our intuition. How is our intuition communicating with us and B: actually acting on it because our intuition is helping us thrive. If you've heard of the term ego, our ego is helping keep us safe and keeping us in survival mode.
[00:01:31] It's helping us survive, but our intuition is helping us thrive. So a lot of us are living in ego day in and day out, and that's because we're human, because we live in a society that is heavily conditioned. You see all of our friends and family and they go to college or university, they get a good job, they buy the house, they get married, they have the family, all of the things, like that's expected.
[00:02:00] So when we see a path, our ego says, that's safe. So that's keeping us in that survival mode. But it may not be what our intuition is actually desiring. It may not be where our intuition is guiding us. So if our intuition is going to communicate with us to say what it is that your soul is here to do in this lifetime.
[00:02:24] It may be different than what everyone else is doing. I will tell you, it is probably different than what everyone else is doing if you are listening to this podcast. If you are listening to this podcast, I know for a fact, because I am one of these people, we are rare. We are the people that are not here for the status quo, for building the life like everybody else.
[00:02:45] We are here for something bigger, something better. so tapping into our intuition, understanding it is going to be our greatest key to success, our greatest key to fulfillment, our greatest key to joy and love and happiness is tapping into our intuition. So we got lots to talk about today. We already talked a little bit about the difference between ego and intuition.
[00:03:12] I want to talk about how our intuition communicates to us. So there are multiple ways, but the four main ways that our intuition is communicating with us is, I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the clairs, what they are. So we have clairvoyance, which is probably the most popular or the most well known that people think about when they think about intuition.
[00:03:37] So, clairvoyance is clear seeing. So it's when we have these visions. That's why people do vision boards. When you have these visions for your life, these dreams, these goals that you have for yourself, seeing yourself open up a photography business or seeing yourself going on this dream vacation to Italy, whatever it is.
[00:03:59] Those dreams, those visions are meant for you. I don't have the vision of opening a photography business, but if you do, that is meant for you. So trusting that, sinking into that, whatever our intuition is communicating to us is for us. So if you are someone who is clairvoyant, someone who has these visions that when you close your eyes, you can see these clear pictures.
[00:04:27] You can see things in color. That is a really good sign when you close your eyes and you dream and things in color, that you are clairvoyant. So then the next one is clairaudience. So clairaudience is hearing. So hearing voices that are outside of yourself. So it's not your voice necessarily, but you just, this is like the voice of your higher self or a higher being that's communicating with you.
[00:04:54] Or it could be a friend or a family member. Like you, you hear their voice, like calling to [00:05:00] you. And you're like, I don't see them anywhere. Maybe I should give them a call and see what's going on. That's an example of Claire audience. coming in. Then there's clairsentience. So this like feeling in our bodies, like you feel like in your gut or you feel in your heart or you get the shivers at certain times, like you get the shivers around someone that, I just don't jive with them or something like that.
[00:05:25] There's something about this person. it's that feeling in your body that's It's communicating to you to tell you whether something is right or wrong or good or bad or something along those lines. And then the last other popular one, there are other ones other than this, but the other popular one is clear cognizance.
[00:05:44] So it's this clear knowing, and this is one that is very strong for me. but it took me a long time to trust this one. So my very first example of this, was when I was a kid. I was about, I don't know, maybe about 10 or 12 years old, and my dad, was really big into the Toronto Maple Leafs. He loved hockey, and we were talking about a playoff game, and we both did not watch the hockey game, but I had told my dad who won the hockey game, and I just, he said, Oh, how did you know that?
[00:06:17] And I said, Oh, I heard it on the radio or the news or something like that. and I told him who won or who got the final goal in the game. I remember after it came out of my mouth, after I said it, Oh my gosh, how could you lie to your dad? how could you just like blatantly lie like that?
[00:06:34] How could you just tell him that? There was just something inside of me that was like, No, I know this to be true. I don't know how I know this, but I just, I told him that. It turns out that I was 100% correct, but it scared me. That was my very first, instance. For a lot of people who are claircognizant, or just intuitive in general as children, when they know things, and it can't be validated or backed up by, clear facts, people, grown ups especially, can, be put off by that and can shame children for it.
[00:07:13] That's often why kids, especially, who are very intuitive, shut off their intuition. As kids, we are still very connected to the divine, very connected to our soul and those higher realms. So we're naturally very intuitive, but it's through life and through conditioning. That we shut it off that we turn it off.
[00:07:33] So going into our teenage years, our early adult years, and then now more and more people I find are starting to wake up and tap back into their intuition, but that's why we turn it off as we go through these situations or experiences where we share our gifts with people and then they shut us down. And so then we hide it.
[00:07:54] And so that experience for me personally,I shut down after that because although I was validated by it frightened me. At least my dad didn't know, my dad didn't realize what it was, like, didn't realize that I didn't, I don't think I've actually ever told him this story either. but if he listens to this podcast, he's going to hear it.
[00:08:14] That;s a major thing for children, especially, is when they share their gifts, and then they're shut down, that they don't believe that they're real, that they don't want to be shamed, that they don't want to feel those things. So those are the four main ways that our intuition is always communicating with us.
[00:08:31] So it's about paying attention. It's about sensing. It's about, looking at those cues. Often times people talk about having dreams.
[00:08:40] So dreams are another way that people tap into their intuition. I have an example. I was going through a really difficult time. This was like right around the beginning of my spiritual awakening where I was really unhappy in my job. no matter what I did, I just, I felt depressed. I felt disconnected.
[00:09:02] I felt I had completely lost my purpose. My career was so important to me. I worked downtown Toronto. I was working my way up the corporate ladder. I loved what I did. And when my husband and I moved back to our hometown, I got into a job that I just, I felt lost. So I remember going to bed one night and just, asking anyone asking someone I didn't know who I was asking.
[00:09:28] I was just asking spirit for guidance. That night I went to bed and I'm pretty sure it was a full moon or a new moon or something like that. But I went to bed that night and I got I had a dream. I had a dream that I went into my boss's office the next day and I asked her for another job and there was actually a job posting up for a job that was actually a pay grade below me.
[00:09:53] My ego said, no, don't apply for that. Even though I knew it would be really fun. I knew it would be right [00:10:00] in my wheelhouse. But my ego said, no, it's a pay grade below. Why would I do that? In this dream, it was so vivid. It was so clear to me that I needed to go into her office and tell her this. The very next day, honestly, I had nothing to lose, I literally had nothing to lose.
[00:10:19] I went into her office, I explained to her that I didn't feel like I could continue in the role that I was in, in order to meet her needs and the demands of the job, and that I would really like to apply to this other job. Literally within two months of that conversation, I was in that job.
[00:10:37] So my ego, this is a perfect example of my ego said, why take a job? That's a lower pay grade. You are here to rise. You are here to be the CEO of the company is what my ego was saying to me. But my intuition was no, you've got to do it. I'm so glad that I did because we were also struggling with fertility at the time, my husband and I, and actually a month after I took that job, I got pregnant. It was just a huge confirmation for me and the job turned out to be so fun. I loved the job. I loved the people that I worked with. I learned so much in it. For me at the time, my happiness was the biggest priority for me. That's a perfect example of us having these visions or these dreams and acting on them.
[00:11:27] So that's the other piece to this is that we need to act on these visions, these feelings, these knowings that we get. I acted on that. I went into the boss's office and I told her exactly what I saw in the dream. I shared that and that's where I ended up. A lot of people are afraid.
[00:11:49] A lot of people have their ego. A lot of people have fears coming up. Anxiety can come up, all of those sorts of things and that prevents us from taking action on our intuition. I think the biggest thing for me, really stepping into that action, is when I get these intuitive hits, when I just know these things, when I see these visions, I've gotten a lot more comfortable and confident in taking action right away.
[00:12:15] I find when I sit on them for a little while, and there are some things, some of the bigger things, sometimes you have to sit on them. Sometimes you have to let it sink in and you might not be able to take action the next day on them. Sometimes you might, take a month. So another example of this was last fall with my human design business.
[00:12:39] I had launched my human design coaching certification and my intuition, my soul was loud and clear that I needed to shut it down. I had no idea why. I had no idea why. It made zero sense to my logical brain. I just had this intuitive knowing. I did not act on it right away. I let it sit for about a month until it got so loud that I was like, okay.
[00:13:03] When I say so loud, it was like my physical health. I was completely depleted. It was the only thing I could think about. I was not concentrating on anything else. It was making me physically sick. My stomach was in knots. I was experiencing high anxiety and I was like, I just need to be done with this.
[00:13:20] I just need to be done with this anxiety. I need to be done with this feeling. I need to make a decision. This is the other thing too. A lot of people talk about how they feel stuck. They feel stuck. They don't know, they don't know what their purpose is. They don't know what to do. And I don't believe people are ever stuck.
[00:13:39] It's because they are not making a decision. Their intuition is always communicating with them and the options that are being presented to them just might not be what their logical brain thinks is the right thing to do. Remember, your intuition is always wanting you to thrive.
[00:13:59] Your ego is keeping you safe. So when you feel stuck, it's your ego. Your ego is running the show. It doesn't want to make a decision because you're safe right now. You're okay. If you make a decision that's not in alignment with your ego, or it's something that's different that requires a new skill or spending money or certain things that maybe your nervous system is uncomfortable with, then that's why you're not making that decision.
[00:14:24] _T_hat's why you're feeling stuck. When you look at it from the perspective of you're never stuck, you're just not making a decision and that there are endless opportunities that whatever decision you make your intuition is always guiding you is always leading you to thrive. There is no wrong answer when you make a decision.
[00:14:46] That's also another guiding factor that I live by is that I have never stuck that I have the power to make a decision and no decision is wrong because my intuition is always guiding me. [00:15:00] Even if it's a quote unquote failure, it never is a failure, because there's always a lesson in it. There is always something to be learned, and we'll make you stronger, we'll make you more knowledgeable, we'll make you the person that you are meant to be on your path.
[00:15:19] So you cannot... F this up. You literally cannot F this up. So you are never stuck, you are just not making a decision. So that's important. The other thing is the anxiety piece that I was talking about. So people ask, what's the difference between anxiety? So anxiety, fear, intuition. They're all very similar.
[00:15:42] They're all the same energy in our body. they all feel the same way, and excitement. Excitement goes in there, intuition and excitement, I feel, are very tied together. But they're all along the same vein. They all feel the same way in our body. It's this heightened state in our body, in our nervous system.
[00:16:01] When I know that anxiety is related to my intuition, there's usually some sort of empowering thought associated with it or some sort of, empowerment to get me closer to my goals or to,move away from something that is no longer serving me. That's usually how I delineate whether that anxiety feeling is really my intuition.
[00:16:26] Same with your fear. if you know that it's your intuition that's guiding this and you will always feel fear, no matter what level you are at in life and business, you will always feel fear because it's something that's new. It's something that's unknown. Our body always responds Ego is safe.
[00:16:45] You will feel calm, cool, collected. It might be boring. Fear is this heightened state of something new, something that I've never done before, that I don't know what the outcome is. Our ego likes to control, but our intuition likes to expand, and so if you look at it from that perspective, the fear...
[00:17:05] I am afraid of doing this thing, but is this expanding me? Is this empowering me to do something new, to do something different? If that is the case, then that's a really good sign that it is your intuition that's speaking, and then that's something to move forward. The example of me taking the job that was a lower pay grade.
[00:17:27] For me, it was like my ego was keeping me safe. I was making a certain income. I was safe, but I was really unhappy. For me, I would rather move away from that unhappiness and try something completely new than to stay where I , and so that was the empowering thought.
[00:17:45] I was moving away from the unhappiness, going to something new, trying something new, even though I was at risk of making less money, or perceived risk of making less money. What is really interesting in my corporate career today I'm already way ahead of what I was at that point, but I needed that step back in order to move, and so if you look at your career as evolution and growth over a lifetime, and not just the moment to moment, like my career has been a bit of a rollercoaster. I've taken ups and downs and all arounds, but I've still progressed. I've still learned. I've still moved ahead. We're always evolving, we're always moving. It takes a lot of pressure off when we look at our lives as evolution and growth over a lifetime versus in this like micro moment of our lives, like a one year span or a six month span in the grand scheme of our lives, there is so much more to it.
[00:18:46] We can take a dip. We can take a break. We can, stop our business or, take a pivot in our business and it will be back to where it was or even better because we're actually experiencing the feelings that we want to experience. So whether it's the joy, the excitement, the fulfillment and so moving away from that safety net and moving into something that is much more fulfilling. That's that empowering thought of the intuition. So in our bodies, fear, anxiety, intuition, excitement, they're all the same thing, but delineating what is empowering, what is moving me towards something that I truly desire or away from something that I don't desire anymore.
[00:19:32] Something that to try something new to experience something. It's a very empowering thought. So always keep that in mind. For me, my intuition has been such a journey, and so for you, developing your intuition is going to be a journey as well. It's like exercising. when you first start out and you do... a pushup, you can probably only do one, two, three, and then you're like, okay, I'm done. Then after six months, you can do [00:20:00] 10 after a year, you can do 50, whatever it is. It's as you stay consistent and consistent doesn't mean, consistent effort over time, but, stay committed to it.
[00:20:12] The longer term vision of things. that's when your intuition will skyrocket. So I've looked at my journey with intuition as, peaks of growth and exponential growth in these, really short amounts of time, but they happen in different phases of my life. So I talked to you about my childhood, and I had these, peaks into what my intuition was and the capability of my intuition, but I shut it off.
[00:20:39] All throughout, high school university, I was completely anxiety ridden. At the time, I didn't realize what that anxiety was. That anxiety was my intuition speaking to me, but me dimming it down, me shutting it down because I needed to fit in. I needed to follow the normal path. I needed to get good grades, save for university, go to university, get the job,
[00:21:08] I was full of anxiety. I was on antidepressant meds. All of the things. Because, I thought something was wrong with me. This is so common. This is so common for so many youths and young people. Everyone. It is so common for our society right now because we're all trying to fit in. Really, what that anxiety is for most of us is just our intuition speaking to us and telling us the that we are here for something different for something more for something that is more aligned to our soul than what we are living right now. It took me up until my late twenties to realize that this anxiety that I've been feeling most of my life has just been my intuition talking to me that the life that I was living at that point was not really the life that I wanted for myself, the life that I was building for myself. I thought I wanted to, go to business school, get the degree, work my way up the corporate ladder and be a CEO of a fortune 500 company that was the goal. That was the vision. it was in my late 20s that I realized that what if I don't want that.
[00:22:20] What if that's not really what I want? That's what kicked off my soul searching journey. I will always remember this, a course that I took, and I feel like I've shared this probably a hundred times through social media, but it's an important one is that I took a course on meditation and chakras.
[00:22:37] I had no idea why I was drawn to it, but I felt drawn to it. and the instructor of the course, who is now actually my therapist, and she has been for the last five or six years, but I took this course and I remember the very first class where we went around the room and the instructor, she asked us, what is your connection to your higher self?
[00:22:57] I listened to all of these women so elegantly speak about their connection to their higher self. And I couldn't, and I was so triggered. in that moment, thinking, these women are so disconnected from real life. The reason why I was so triggered was because that's the exact thing I needed. I was so disconnected.
[00:23:14] My body, my mind, my soul was so disconnected from my intuition, from my soul, from my higher self. That's really been my journey personally over these last, six or seven years. That course really skyrocketed things for me and took me down this path of personal development and, learning more about my spiritual awakening that was happening.
[00:23:39] I took Reiki about two, three years ago now. So I became a Reiki master. and that was another. one of those quantum leap moments is when I started to, not only trust my intuition for myself, but my intuition for other people as well. So through that course, through that program, I did a mentorship and what was so cool is doing Reiki sessions for people that I had never met in my entire life and knowing so much about them and getting it confirmed by the people, oh my gosh, how did you know that? So that was another quantum leap in my intuition journey is when I just started doing readings and Reiki sessions for other people.
[00:24:25] The next quantum leap was last fall when I started working with allies and guides. This is going to be another podcast episode, but really talking about working with allies and guides, because to me, that is the single most effective way, A, to develop your intuition, but B, to heal yourself. You don't need, a physical healer, you need connection to allies, to guides.
[00:24:52] That is what's going to lead your life. it's what's going to grow your business exponentially. It's what's going to,[00:25:00] bring in the joy and the fulfillment. It's going to bring in, tests and lessons in your life. That's going to get you closer. To this highest timeline that you are here to live and your purpose and your mission.
[00:25:14] I talk about I can't ignore my intuition if I tried and that is true. I feel physically sick. My guides I know are always with me. I hear them. I see them. and I sense them and so working with allies and guides is what's going to skyrocket things. For you, if you choose this path, so not everyone has to do this, but I truly believe that this is that next level or next paradigm new paradigm way of developing our intuition, because, at the end of the day, we don't know everything.
[00:25:51] There are beings that are so much greater than us and they are all constantly supporting us. That's who has been supporting me and birthing energy weaving and working with my clients and providing thesemiracle healings that, not a lot of people on this planet can provide, but it's not me.
[00:26:10] it's truly the helper beings that I work with. So whether it's the Archangels, whether it's the Guardians of the Light, whether it's the Ascended Masters, there are so many guides that are here to support us on our evolutionary and essential journey that we can just tap into with a matter of command.
[00:26:29] It's been such a beautiful journey, but that was my next evolution, and I'm sure that there will be more of these quantum leaps in my intuitive journey. To show you that intuition isn't like a linear thing, and it's not something that you can just like turn on. It's something that you work at, and you have commitment and devotion to develop and to grow it because like I said, the more you develop your intuition, the more you build a connection with yourself with your soul.
[00:27:00] If you are feeling lost or purposeless or wanting to grow your business or just know that you are here for something so big you are here to create something tapping into your intuition is the single most important thing to do that. It is what's going to give you that purpose that fulfillment that joy that passion that thing that you feel like you've been missing is all found within and it's all by listening to yourself ,so I feel like there was a lot of channeling that came in there.
[00:27:34] I'm feeling like very dialed in right now, but I hope you got a lot out of this podcast episode. I feel like I gave, my heart and soul in this episode and I think I'm going to leave it here. There's going to be more to come. I feel like there's a part two to this, just sharing a little bit more about my work with the allies and guides, for now sending so much love and just keep shining your light.
